Facts about how to attain normal sleep cycles
If you have children that have difficulty falling asleep, or children who simply have irregular sleep cycles for no apparent reason, it doesn't necessarily mean that they have a sleeping disorder. Sleeping problems with adults are easier to diagnose, as they often are a result of stress. In kids, it's a little harder to tell. However, a melatonin imbalance may be the answer as to why children have unusual sleep cycles.
Melatonin
Melatonin is a naturally secreted hormone from the pineal gland in the brain that helps maintain the body's normal sleep rhythm while regulating other hormones. Levels of melatonin in the blood can be found at its highest prior to nighttime. Melatonin helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle. In addition, melatonin has strong antioxidant effects. Preliminary evidence also suggests that it may help strengthen the immune system. That is why we use melatonin as part of our sleep aid for children. The most common side effects of using melatonin are nausea, headaches, dizziness, and drowsiness; and these effects were not significant when compared to a placebo. This result did not change with dosage amount.
Chamomile
Chamomile is a flowering plant in the daisy family. It is native to Europe and Asia where the flowers are used medicinally. The active part of chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties; and help with spasm and discomfort in the digestive tract. Chamomile is commonly used in the aid in relaxation and sleep.
Chamomile is part of the Asteraceae plant family, which includes ragweed and chrysanthemum. People with seasonal allergies may react. Call your physician before using this product. Our chamomile comes from the Matricamia Recutia.
We use melatonin and chamomile in OZzzz's Sleep Aid for Children because they are gentle and can help children get rest. If your child has unusual sleep cycles that are depriving them of rest, our product can help you. Please consult your physician for more information.
